Ilkal

Ilkal saree gets its name from Ilkal village in North Karnataka where it's traditionally woven on Handloom. It takes minimum 2 days to weave an Ilkal saree on handloom which requires a lot of skill and patience. The saree is also called Irkal or Irkali in Maharashtra. It's identified by its unique border designs like Chikki Paras, Dodd Paras, Gomi, Gayathri etc. and also by its pallu design technique called Tope Teni. Plain as well as checkered body is found in Ilkal sarees. Traditional border and pallu are found to be majorly in shades of red. But, nowadays we get to see all kinds of colour combinations.. core remains the same :)
